Mr. Barnett is happy to put his varied life experiences and educational experience to work here at Saint John’s Academy. Before entering education he had received an Associate degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from East Carolina University. His business career included positions in sales, restaurant management, running cruise ships, and as the owner/operator of a business cleaning autos, boats and aircrafts. Working with youth as a coach of a Little League baseball team led to his decision to sell the business and become a teacher. Mr. Barnett received a Master of Education from Dowling College in New York. He taught for ten years at an at-risk school in Virginia Beach, VA and as the gifted teacher for ten years in Jupiter, FL. He has been teaching and substitute teaching in Saint Johns county for the past eleven years. In order to be a caretaker for his wife, it was necessary to retire early from full-time teaching and become a substitute teacher. Mr. Barnett has been very involved with Awaken City church, working with the homeless at Home Again shelter, distributing food to needy families in the community with the Jesus Cares ministry, and ministering to prisoners at Lawty penitentiary with the Kairos ministry group. Serving God, helping the less fortunate and teaching youth are Mr. Barnett’s passion in life.
