Mrs. Patty Schuman is of Colombian heritage, a native of Queens, New York and wife to Mr. Keith Schuman, 4th grade Teacher at St. John’s Academy. She is also his administrative assistant in Children’s Ministry at their home church. They met while pursuing an Architecture degree. She has 5 children; 2 in heaven and 3 classically educated graduates: class of 2018, 2020, 2022.
As a first generation American she learned both English and Spanish simultaneously at home. Her greatest joy was teaching her children at home and Tutoring in their home school community. There she was a lead learner in Latin as well as other subjects for nine years. Mrs. Schuman affirms that Latin is not a dead language but a finite one. By exposing children to Latin they wrestle with ideas that might not come naturally to them. The result is a classically disciplined student that learns across all subjects. Mrs. Schuman further contends that a classical education is the link that connects scholasticism to Biblical literacy. Therefore, a classical education is the most successful way to train up a child into spiritual maturity.
